Title Animation in Asia: appropriation, reinterpretation, and adoption or adaptation
Author John A. Lent
Issue Issue 11, 2000.
Asian animation has been strongly influenced by western film, particularly Disney, but it has also resisted those influences and found other important sources in earlier cultural forms (such as the comic book) and in the animation industries of neighbouring countries within Asia. This article teases out some of these complexities, in the interaction of the animation industries of China, India, Taiwan, Korea and Vietnam, and the recent changes in their economic and aesthetic relationships with the west.
